Symbolizing good fortune and good wishes, floating lanterns make for a great activity during the holiday season or welcoming the new year. Yes. It will require everyone to bundle up and head to a safe location for the release. But with friends and family at your side, seeing the lanterns float away in the sky will be worth it. Not only will this create a lasting memory, especially with the younger ones, but hopefully the start of a great tradition. (And once the lanterns are released, pull out some cookies and warm beverages to enjoy on the ride – or walk – home.)
