Alt Summit Conference {daytime attire}

Jan 15, 2014 | Et cetera, fashion, Travel |

If you happened to glance at my Twitter feed yesterday, you might have noticed A) actual activity thanks to B) a small conversation between the ever-so-helpful Kim Wardell and myself about a conference we’re heading to next week (yes, I was the one using #AltFirstTimer).

In short the conference, Alt Summit SLC, is for bloggers primarily in the creative fields. Think along the lines of photographers, designers, stylists, foodies, and DIYers. The conference planners have been rolling out the speaker list and recently announced Christy Turlington Burns (um, yeah, THAT Christy) would be speaking. I nearly fell off my chair because I feel the Every Mother Counts campaign is incredibly important for the welfare of moms-to-be and moms around the world.

As the conference comes closer, I’ve been mentally putting together my packing list. Having planned conferences at various hotels in the past, I know a crucial requirement for survival: dress warmly, in layers preferably, and dress for comfort no matter the season or location. Seriously folks: never attend a conference in Hawaii without a cardigan. Big mistake.

I decided I’d roll with the PNW/Seattle lady look. I’ll wear my flannel shirts with pride, bring the “fancy” jeans, and dress both up with statement jewelry. Comfortable shoes will be a must. A cozy cardigan because there’s always a powerful AC overhead. And of course, a bag not only for my trusty laptop, but also to hold sponsor swag and a safe spot for business cards.**

**Moment of honesty: the business card thing is bananas. It’s the one thing I keep reading about that has me a little worried. I really love my current cards but felt like I needed to think way outside the box on this one. Keep an eye on my Instagram feed for a sneak peek if they arrive in time! If not, my current sidekicks will work perfectly.

How you attended a conference in the past? What did you take with you to help you stand out and be memorable to the people you met? Do you tend to dress more formally or do you wear your “work” attire if there’s no conference dress code?

Come hang out with this lil’ bird!
